Background for the workshop
The workshop is based on our latest projects that put several questions about the urban room and the body as a carrier of communication. We researched cities as space and developed choreographies for dancers and walkers-on in different Nordic capitals. The workshop involves choreography, dance and movement with inspiration from individual spaces we has visit during our project. The project has uses the public space as a thematic and narrative resource.
The body as a carrier of communication in different contexts and perspectives is the focus of the artistic work. Problems surrounding human emotions and the frail nature of life are the main theme of the artistic work. In the workshop, we want to give insight to different working methods that the choreographer uses in her projects with professional dancers and other attendants. The goal is to offer a sharp, fresh and awakening workshop that puts the body as in movement in dance in various different perspectives. The choreographic methods and material is an important part of the work and a prerequisite for the workshop. Inspiration sources come from the choreographer’s physical and imaginary worlds and are part of the workshop. The workshop gives an insight into the choreographers different methods used in earlier shows.
The tasks in the workshop are based on discussion, improvisation, composition and partner work, and are adapted to the group and each individual. Scenography or theatrical properties can be used in the work. If the choreographer has an ongoing show during the same period as the workshop, it will be possible to arrange visits to repetitions in the studio and the scene. It is necessary that there is access to a studio or a scene for the work as well as access to electricity, sound and light equipment.
Music/sound
Music is a important part of the workshop to create different moods and variations of the work. The music will be electro acoustic and is presented as a mixture of composed sounds that are recorded from the workshop and played in real time. This creates a stronger sense of autencity, presence and intensity as well as a better integration of the participants. The soundscape is going to create atmospheres and support the choreography, the room and the milieu. Music is presenting live with composer ore sound designer.
