Nordic Projects

Nordic Projects consists of several productions from Choreographer Emilia Adelöw and selected Partners and Collaborators.
Adelöw is based in Oslo, Norway and involves Norwegian performers with strong stage personalities and high movement qualities. Projects with dynamic strength have always been the choreographer’s characteristics.

The body as a carrier of communication in different contexts and perspectives is the focus of the artistic work. Problems surrounding human emotions and the frail nature of life are the main theme of the choreographers work.

The Choreographers signature is the strong impact of dynamic movements in relation to the room, light and sound combined with a visual and emotional closeness in the situation. Expressed through movement and dance, people in relations and reactions to different influences are always explored. The projects are primarily directed toward a young adult audience.

Since 2003 Adelöw has received annual support from the Arts Council Norway, Fund for performing artists and the Fond for lyd og bilde. She has also received several grants for research and related artistic works.

Choreographer Emilia Adelöw

With a portfolio of artistic projects made on and off stage, Adelöws artistic base has been in Norway since 2003. In relation to the projects she has initiated she have involved and collaborated with several dancers, performers, photographers, light designers, scenographers, costume designers, film directors, video artist, graphic designers and composers. Working mainly with Norwegian dancers and performers with background in contemporary dance, theatre field and visual fields in various age and stage experiences.

Since 2003, the choreographer has documented her work in close collaboration with photographers and filmmakers.
In 2009 she released a limited edition photo documentary book with 200 pages based on location-based productions. The book was realised in collaboration with photographer Stian Andersen and graphic designer Thomas Knutstad.

In 2005 she converted an office location in central Oslo to a studio where a series of eight different solos and duets were produced and displayed. The Walls consists of several dance performances presented in Oslo in 2005-2008.

The performances were presented from a basic idea where the theme, choreography and dramaturgy repeat itself in several different contexts. The human body as carrier of communication, with underlying definitions and presentations of problems, is a pervading approach. Several different duets and solos have been presented.

Music is an important part of the performances to create different moods and variations of the work to support the choreography, the room and the milieu. Norwegian composers accompany the dance performances with original music. The music has often been electro-acoustic and been presented as a live mix of pre-recorded sound/music and recorded sound from the room.

In 2002 she participated in the Helsinki International Ballet Competition with a quartet and in 2003 at AeroWaves in London, UK with a duet. She has been to several artist residences in Europe. She gives workshops for different art schools in various fields.

Since 2003 she has received annual support from the Arts Council Norway, Fund for performing artists and the Fond for lyd og bilde. She has also received several grants for research and related artistic works.
